From classical piano to the camera

Aria Farjadi is a Danish actor, pianist and composer born in 1965 in Tehran, Iran, who emigrated to Denmark at the age of 25. He studied music in Tehran under musician Sharif Lotfi for three years before moving to Denmark. He is the founder and director of the Farjadi Piano School in Copenhagen NV, where he has taught piano for over 25 years, and is a member of the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA) Denmark. In 2023 he also completed a pianist course at The Royal Danish Ballet’s Summer School.

He played the lead role of a piano teacher in the short film “Mount Everest” (2019, dir. Rasmus Nyholm Schmitt), which won Best Danish Short Film at the Odense International Film Festival (OFF) 2019 — earning him a nomination for Best Male Actor at the EKKO Shortlist Awards 2019. According to an interview with EKKO, director Rasmus Nyholm Schmitt had himself been a piano student of Aria’s, and drew on his teaching for the film’s screenplay.

In 2021 he took the lead role of a pianist and family father in the short film “Overtones” (dir. Rasmus Nyholm Schmitt, Growing Stories), which was nominated for Best Nordic Short Film at Nordisk Panorama in Malmö 2022 — and in 2023 earned him his second Best Male Actor nomination at the EKKO Shortlist Awards.

Since then he has appeared in a range of Danish and international productions, including the TV series “Klovn” (TV 2), “Tunna Blå Linjen” (SVT) and the Netflix series “SKRUK”, as well as commercials for DSB, the Danish Cancer Society, LEGO and Telenor Business, among others. He has also composed film music, including for the documentary “My Iranian Paradise” (2008).

Aria speaks Danish, English and Persian (Farsi, native language), as well as Dari and some Arabic.

In 2022, Aria served as a jury member at Brejning Film Festival, where he took part in the professional film industry jury screening and rating submitted films for the festival’s official selection.
